What is this? I don’t even…

This blog is probably not quite as depressing as the title would have you believe because there is a secret, invisible other word in the title. It really should read: (Other) People Are Awful.

And other people are sort of awful. They do crazy, stupid, inexplicable things for seemingly no reason at all. They’re sometimes self destructive, frequently environmentally destructive and generally socially destructive. It’s almost like people are programmed only to look out for their own best interest at the expense of everyone around them (and sometimes even themselves).

Well actually, that’s exactly what it’s like. People are programmed only to look out for their own best interest. But that doesn’t mean we should just give up hope and run around panicking, despairing for humanity. (Although don’t let me dissuade you if you are so inclined. There’s almost always something worth panicking about if one knows where to look)

This blog is about exploring human motivation through psychology, philosophy, video games, and sometimes politics. Psychology is sort of the intersection between the brain and the mind, and philosophy is sort of the intersection between human and humanity. By understanding why we do the things we do on a large scale and as individuals, we are in a better position to solve problems and make life better for everyone. And I have it on good authority that knowing is half the battle.
